About Us
Urban Aquatics Inc. is a non-profit organization created to help bridge the gap between our youth, the environment and science. Not many urban and minority community-based children get the opportunity to be educated in marine life, let alone experience it. Urban Aquatics wants to bring the aquatic world and all its wonders to students in a way that expands their mindset. Our youth are the future, and the future caregivers of Earth. To care for something, you must be made aware of its presence and importance. We bring this knowledge in a way that captivates the students and allows them to see all the possibilities they never knew existed.
Our founder, Tarimah Clark, has always loved animals. Family and friends would call her Dr. Dolittle because of the connection she had with all animals. Though she loves them all, her heart has always been with the sea. Growing up, it was rare to see African Americans in science roles, let alone in the marine field. We were always taught about black scientist like inventors, but never ones who were in the wildlife field. We rarely talked about the environment and how important it is to do our part, let alone the animals. Unless you live by the ocean, getting exposed to marine life was slim to none. But why does it need to be this way? Can you imagine the change we could make in the world if more children in rural areas got the chance to be exposed to a world much different than their own, but beautiful, nonetheless.

With Tarimah’s background in biology-zoology and scuba certification, she created programs to help students learn about marine life in depth. They will learn what the ocean is, the animals and key roles they play in the ecosystem and why it is so important to conserve them. Students will be exposed to the water, whether it be swimming, snorkeling, or diving, they will have the chance to know it exists to experience.
